Tropic Marin® Original Balling Components – Precision Mineral Balance

Tropic Marin® Original Balling Components are three pharmaceutical-grade salts used for the world-renowned "Balling Method" of aquarium maintenance. This method allows aquarists to independently and precisely adjust calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels without disrupting the ionic balance of the water. Unlike standard two-part systems that can lead to an accumulation of sodium chloride (table salt) over time, the Original Balling system includes a sodium chloride-free sea salt to ensure that the water chemistry remains identical to natural seawater.

The Three-Part System for Total Control

Each component serves a specific role in maintaining the skeletal growth of corals and the stability of the reef ecosystem.

  • Component A (Calcium Chloride): Provides the calcium necessary for the calcification of stony corals, crustose algae, and other reef organisms.

  • Component B (Sodium Bicarbonate): Supplies the carbonates required to maintain proper alkalinity (dKH) and stabilize the pH of the aquarium.

  • Component C (Sodium Chloride-Free Sea Salt): The "secret" to the Balling Method; it provides all 70 trace elements and essential minerals, preventing the ionic drift and salt buildup common in other dosing methods.

  • Pharmaceutical-Grade Purity: Every component is manufactured to the highest standards, ensuring it is free from nitrates, phosphates, and heavy metal contaminants.

  • Perfect Solubility: These salts are engineered to dissolve quickly and clearly, making them ideal for use with automatic dosing pumps.

    FAQ Section: Common Questions

    • How do I prepare the solutions? Dissolve the following amounts separately into 5 Liters of RO/DI water:

      • Component A: 380 g

      • Component B: 420 g

      • Component C: 125 g

    • How much should I dose? Dose equal amounts of all three solutions daily into a high-flow area of the aquarium. Start with 30 ml per 100 L (26 US gal) and adjust based on your alkalinity and calcium test results.

    • Why do I need Component C? When you dose A and B, they react to form Calcium Carbonate (used by corals) and Sodium Chloride (table salt). Over time, this increases salinity and unbalances the water. Component C adds back the missing minerals (magnesium, potassium, trace elements) to keep the water ionically "whole."

    • Is it better than a Calcium Reactor? The Balling Method offers more precision than a reactor. It allows you to make micro-adjustments to individual parameters without affecting others, making it ideal for systems with high coral density.
