Overview
Tidy Tank Saltwater is formulated with a specialized blend of sludge-removing Bacillus bacteria, containing 2 billion CFU (colony-forming units) per milliliter. These heterotrophic bacteria rapidly break down organic waste, such as uneaten food, fish waste, decaying plants, and other debris, improving water clarity and reducing odors.
The bacteria work to eliminate sludge in substrates, filters, and tubing while preventing anaerobic zones in biofilters. By reducing debris accumulation, Tidy Tank optimizes filter efficiency and enhances water flow. These bacteria function in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, ensuring effectiveness in a range of aquarium environments.
Benefits & Compatibilities
-
Safe to Use: Non-toxic and non-pathogenic; safe for fish, plants, and wildlife.
-
Compatible Products: Works well with Kordon’s water conditioners (Amquel, Amquel Plus, NovAqua), organic medications (Ich Attack, Prevent Ich), and supplements like PhosRid and SeaClear.
-
Copper Tolerance: Tidy Tank Saltwater is somewhat copper-tolerant but not firmly quantified.
-
Not a Replacement: Regular maintenance, including water changes, remains essential.
Contraindications
- Avoid using with medications, especially antibiotics, as they harm beneficial bacteria. Perform a 20% water change and use activated carbon to remove residual medication before applying Tidy Tank.
- Turn off UV sterilizers and protein skimmers for 24 hours after application to protect the bacteria.
Directions for Use
- Shake well before use.
-
Dose: Add 2 teaspoons (10 mL) per 10 gallons (37.85 L) of water.
-
Reapply: Repeat dosage after 24 hours for heavy sludge removal, then biweekly or as needed to maintain water clarity.
- For maximum effectiveness, add Tidy Tank directly to filter media like activated carbon, which provides an ideal surface area for bacterial growth.
Purposes & Benefits
When introduced to an aquarium, the bacteria in Tidy Tank transition from spore to active form, consuming organic waste rapidly. Once their food source is depleted, the bacteria naturally reduce in population. Regular monthly dosing is recommended to maintain effective levels and prevent sludge buildup.
