Seachem ParaGuard – Aldehyde-Based Parasite & Fungal Control

Seachem ParaGuard is a unique, aldehyde-based synergistic fish and filter-safe conditioner designed to treat a wide variety of parasitic, fungal, and bacterial infections. Unlike highly toxic and difficult-to-use formalin-based medications, ParaGuard contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not significantly alter the pH of your aquarium. It is the ideal first-line defense for community tanks and quarantine systems alike.

Broad-Spectrum Eradication & Safety

ParaGuard provides a safer alternative to traditional harsh chemicals while maintaining high efficacy against common aquatic pathogens.

  • Synergistic Blend: Employs a proprietary blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish-protective polymers to eradicate ectoparasites and fungal spores.

  • Eradicates Common Pests: Highly effective against Ichthyophthirius (Ich), Trichodina, Costia, and Flukes, as well as external fungal and bacterial lesions.

  • Filter Safe: When used as directed, ParaGuard will not damage the beneficial nitrifying bacteria in your biological filter, preventing ammonia spikes during treatment.

  • Protective Polymers: Contains specialized polymers that help repair damaged fish slime coats and fins, aiding in the healing process.

  • Convenient Dosing: Designed for daily dosing in the aquarium, making it easier to manage than complex bath treatments.

FAQ Section: Common Questions

  • Is ParaGuard safe for invertebrates? ParaGuard is generally safer for many invertebrates than copper-based medications; however, it is not recommended for reef tanks containing delicate corals or anemones. Use with caution in tanks with snails or shrimp, and monitor them closely.

  • How do I dose Seachem ParaGuard? Use 5 mL (1 capful) for every 40 L (10 US gallons) daily. Continue treatment for at least 14 days in the main tank or until the fish show no further signs of stress or infection.

  • Do I need to remove my carbon filter? Yes. Chemical filtration such as activated carbon, Purigen, or specialized resins will remove the medication from the water and must be removed during the treatment period.
