Polyp Lab Medic – Reef-Safe Parasite Treatment & Water Conditioner

Polyp Lab Medic is a highly effective, reef-safe water conditioner engineered to eliminate external parasites in both marine and freshwater environments. Formulated with a buffered oxidizing agent, Medic targets waterborne pollutants and dangerous parasites—including Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans), Marine Velvet (Amyloodinium ocellatum), and Freshwater Ich (Ichthyophthirius)—directly in your display tank without harming delicate corals, invertebrates, or nitrifying bacteria.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 100% Reef-Safe: Completely safe for delicate SPS/LPS corals, soft corals, anemones, shrimp, snails, and other invertebrates.

  • Targets the Free-Swimming Stage: Uses a specialized oxidizing agent to disrupt the parasite life cycle during its vulnerable free-swimming stage (theronts/dinospores).

  • pH-Buffered Formula: Maintained at a physiological pH to ensure treatment does not drop or destabilize aquarium water parameters.

  • Protects Biological Filtration: Destroys external pathogens while leaving beneficial nitrifying bacteria in your filter media and sandbed completely intact.

  • Dual-Environment Use: Equally effective in high-salinity reef tanks, FOWLR systems, and freshwater aquariums.

How Medic Works (The Parasite Life Cycle)

External parasites pass through distinct life stages: an attached feeding stage (trophonts), a matured falling stage (protomonts), a reproductive cyst stage (tomonts), and an infectious free-swimming stage (theronts/dinospores).

Most treatments fail because they cannot target parasites encysted in rock or attached to fish. Polyp Lab Medic utilizes a controlled oxidative process that continuously targets attached trophonts while destroying free-swimming theronts as they hatch, breaking the reproductive cycle for good.

Directions & Dosing Guidelines

Dosing Instructions:

  • Standard Treatment: Add 1 level scoop per 190 Liters (50 US Gallons) of total system volume twice per day (once in the morning, once in the evening).

  • Heavy Infection Treatment: Add 3 level scoops per 190 Liters (50 US Gallons) of total system volume twice per day (morning and evening).

  • Treatment Duration: Continue dosing daily for a minimum of 10 days, up to a maximum of 20 days for persistent infections.

Equipment & System Adjustments:

  • Activated Carbon & Ozone: Must be turned OFF and removed during the entire treatment window.

  • Protein Skimmers: Can remain ON and run normally throughout treatment.

  • UV Sterilisers: Turn OFF while dosing. May be turned back ON 1 hour after adding Medic.

  • Post-Treatment Care: Once the 10 to 20-day course is complete, run granular activated carbon for 2 to 3 days to pull remaining oxidative byproducts out of the water.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why must I continue dosing for at least 10 days if the white spots on my fish have disappeared? A: White spots disappearing simply means the parasite has finished feeding and fallen off the fish to form reproductive cysts (tomonts) in the sandbed. You must complete the full 10 to 20-day course to destroy the new free-swimming swarmers as they hatch from the cysts.

Q: Will Polyp Lab Medic affect my protein skimmer? A: No. Unlike many medications that cause protein skimmers to overflow uncontrollably, Medic allows skimmers to operate normally during treatment, maintaining essential oxygenation.

Q: Is Medic safe for delicate invertebrates like cleaner shrimp or clam species? A: Yes. Polyp Lab Medic is specifically formulated and buffered to be completely non-toxic to invertebrates, clams, crustaceans, and all coral species.

Recommended Complementary Products

  • Carbon: Run for 2 to 3 days immediately following the 10–20 day treatment course to polish the water.

  • Aquaforest Garlic Essence: Soaking fish food in garlic during treatment stimulates appetite and supports internal immune response.

  • Biozym N1 Nitrifying Bacteria: Supports bio-filtration and water purity while fish recover from parasite stress.
