Seachem KanaPlex™ – Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic for Internal & External Diseases
Seachem KanaPlex™ is a blended, kanamycin-based medication designed to safely and effectively treat several fungal and bacterial fish diseases. It is particularly valuable because it is absorbed by the fish through both the skin and gills, making it highly effective for treating internal infections even when fish refuse to eat. KanaPlex™ is a staple for hobbyists dealing with severe conditions such as Dropsy, Popeye, Fin/Tail Rot, and Septicemia. It is formulated for use in both freshwater and marine aquariums and is engineered to have a minimal impact on the biological filter bed.
Powerful Recovery for Critical Infections
KanaPlex™ provides a potent therapeutic response to life-threatening bacterial and fungal pathogens without disrupting your tank's stability.
-
Absorbed Systemic Treatment: Unlike surface-only treatments, KanaPlex™ enters the fish's system, allowing it to combat internal infections where food-based medications might fail.
-
Effective Against Dropsy & Popeye: Specifically targets the bacterial infections that cause fluid buildup, protruding eyes, and the "pinecone" scale appearance associated with organ failure.
-
Bio-Filter Safe: When used as directed, it does not adversely affect the nitrifying bacteria in your filter, preventing dangerous ammonia spikes during treatment.
-
Reef-Safe Feeding Option: When mixed with Seachem Focus™, it can be delivered via food, making it an excellent option for treating bacterial issues in tanks containing sensitive invertebrates.
-
Rapid Removal: After the treatment cycle is complete, the medication is easily and thoroughly removed from the water column using standard activated carbon.
FAQ Section: Common Questions
-
How do I dose Seachem KanaPlex™ in the water? Remove all invertebrates and turn off UV, ozone, and chemical filtration (Carbon/Purigen). Use 1 measure (included) for every 20 L (5 US gallons). Repeat this dose every 48 hours for a maximum of 3 doses.
-
Can I use KanaPlex™ in a reef tank? No, do not dose directly into the water of a reef tank, as invertebrates are extremely sensitive to this medication. Instead, use the medicated food method to deliver the treatment directly to the fish while keeping the water column safe for corals and shrimp.
-
How do I make a medicated food mix? Mix 1 scoop of KanaPlex™ with 1 scoop of Seachem Focus™ and 1 tablespoon of food (frozen or pellet). Add a few drops of water if using dry food. Feed this mix daily for up to 1 week or until the infection clears.
-
Can I combine KanaPlex™ with other medications? While KanaPlex™ is chemically compatible with many products, it is generally recommended not to use multiple antibiotics simultaneously to avoid overstressing the fish. If treating for parasites as well, consider a medicated food mix for one and a water treatment for the other.
