Aquaforest Phosphate Minus – Advanced Phosphate & Silicate Remover

Aquaforest Phosphate Minus is an efficient adsorption media engineered to rapidly reduce elevated phosphate (PO4) and silicate levels in marine aquariums. By binding excess nutrients without releasing contaminants back into the water column, it stabilizes water chemistry and prevents cyanobacteria and nuisance green algae outbreaks.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Dual Nutrient Targeting: Binds both phosphates and silicates to maintain pristine water conditions in new and established reef tanks.

  • Algae & Cyano Control: Eliminates the primary food source for green hair algae and cyanobacteria.

  • High Adsorption Capacity: Binds large quantities of PO4 rapidly without harming sensitive fish, corals, or invertebrates.

  • Flexible Placement: Optimized for fluidized media reactors, but can also be used passively in filter bags.

How to Use & Dosage

  • Standard Dosage: Use 25 ml to 100 ml per 100 Liters (27 US gal) of aquarium water, depending on starting PO4 levels.

  • Reactor Setup: Place media in a reactor with a minimum water flow rate of 400 L/h for proper fluidization.

  • Replacement Schedule: Replace every 4 weeks or whenever water testing shows a rise in phosphate levels.

  • Important Handling Note: Do NOT rinse before use. Rinsing in RO/DI water lowers media efficiency. The harmless brown dust is active remover material and clears shortly after installation.

Technical Specifications

  • Media Format: Adsorption Granules

  • Target Contaminants: Phosphates (PO4) and Silicates

  • Minimum Reactor Flow: 400 L/h

  • Lifespan: Up to 4 weeks per treatment

  • Application: Marine & Reef Aquariums

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why shouldn't I rinse Phosphate Minus before adding it to my reactor? A: Rinsing the media in RO/DI water washes away fine, highly active particles and significantly reduces its binding efficiency. The initial brown tint in the tank is non-toxic and clears rapidly via standard filtration.

Q: Can I use this media passively in a filter sock? A: Yes. While a fluidized reactor offers maximum efficiency and contact time, you can place the media inside a fine mesh bag in a high-flow area of your sump.

Q: Will dropping phosphate too fast harm my corals? A: Rapid parameter shifts can stress delicate SPS corals. If your phosphates are extremely high, start with a lower dose (25 ml per 100 L) and gradually increase it to avoid stripping the water too quickly.
